TESTIMONIALS

Maritime Recruitment Team,

Mrs. McCoy and I want to express how thankful we are for your help Thursday Evening at our Recruitment Open House for Parents and Students at CTHS. As you all know Maritime and Port Operations is a mostly unknown pathway or career choice to the general public.

Thanks to your generous gift of time and resources many students and their parents now know the importance of our industry and have a better knowledge of the careers available in the Maritime Industry.

Houston Pilots,

The students really enjoyed having the pilots come into the simulators last week. We are grateful for the pilots help and mentorship to the students.

On behalf of the students, faculty, and trustees of Maine Maritime Academy, it is my privilege to express appreciation for your pledge toward the Houston Pilots Anchor Watch Pass-Through Scholarship Fund. The Academy is a special place, and your gift will ensure that we are able to provide for future students who walk under the elms and along the waterfront here in Castine.

The magnificent support from alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations provides the critical margin of excellence that separates Maine Maritime from ordinary colleges. Your gift to Maine Maritime Academy is a testament to your belief in our mission.

Houston Pilots,

Thank you for the opportunity to learn more about the maritime industry. Our group got to go down to the engine room and up to the bridge. I got to experience some things that I had never done before. For example, I got my sea legs when the waves were 14 feet. The waves also put me to sleep. Thank you guys so much, I learned a lot.

Dear Pilots,

I want to thank you for funding our maritime cruise and allowing us to have an experience I will never forget. I am truly grateful that you allowed us as a class to take a trip to Cozumel and Costa Maya.

It was amazing being with my classmates and living with them for just under a week and bonding with them and getting to know everyone better outside of their school lives, on a ship. The food was amazing, my personal favorites were Guys Burgers, and the special fried rice in the buffet. We also had a memorable moment as a boys group to play Risk, a board game we found in the library. We also hung out in the sauna, the whirlpools, hot tubs, and eating.

It was also fun taking pictures and doing the scavenger hunt with the team. The sea was always beautiful whether it was storming or calm seas. I thought it was amusing seeing the oil rigs way out in the water with their lights on, from my room in the middle of the night. And also water looked almost fake reaching the coast because it was so clear and blue it made me want a blue Gatorade. And the times we sat as a group to eat, the waiters were always nice and responsive.

Last but surely not least, our tour guides did a great job of teaching us the locations of the Muster stations on our cruise ship, as well as where the flotation devices are located, along with the amount of people that can board an emergency lifeboat. It was also nice seeing how and where the fire response team is and how they are alarmed.

We also got to go in the ECR and see the engineers operating in action, along with learning several cool facts about the ship, such as water filtration, waste management, and how many liters of water are filtered per minute. I want to book another cruise already and, I would like to thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Houston Pilots,

I learned so many things about the engine room and what goes on in there and I would like to learn more about it. And they have a camera in every inch of the engine room to see what’s happing in there, it was cool being in there. Thank you for letting me see behind the scenes in the engine room. It was also fun to experience the bridge where the captain and crew steer the ship. Many of the instruments are like our simulator at CTHS, now I see how some things we do in the simulator work on a ship.
